REJECTED.

Querétaro Cuervos rejected logo design

Sometimes . . . people don’t think all of my designs are stunningly fabulous. It hurts, but sometimes it does happen. (Actually, I’m pretty desensitized.) So, instead of letting my rejected designs sit in silence on my hard drive, I’ll start posting them, so you can add your 2 cents if you like. Was the rejection justified?

This is a design that I submitted for Querétaro’s newly formed rugby team. (In case you care, they broke off from the Celaya team which had won the championship in Mexico every year until last year. They lost to Mexico City’s team. It was an emotional loss. In the aftermath, since most of the players lived in Querétaro, they decided to form their own team.)

Queretaro aqueducts - Los ArcosHere is an explanation of the different parts of the logo:

Their team name is the “Cuervos” (crows), hence the black wings which were drawn in Adobe Illustrator. The shield shape is traditional for rugby clubs, and QRO is the abbreviation for the state and city.

I did other versions with a rugby ball on the shield below the QRO, but I didn’t like it, and since it was rejected anyway, I decided not to post that version.

In an attempt to sell my design to the team, I created this poster (it could use more work). The caption translates as “Join our club.”

By the way, am I the only one that finds it odd for Querétaro to have a rugby team? But it is a beautiful city. You should go sometime! It was ranked in the top 15 historic places in the world by National Geographic 2008.

  1. I love it! It’s very… Harry Potter. (I’m not sure if that helps or hurts, but that’s my two cents.)

By the way, I also find the rugby team odd.

  2. Hmmm . . . haven’t had much contact with the Harry Potter business, but thanks for the feedback!

  3. The logo is really cool. Their loss for not choosing it.
